Este libro es un intento de pensar el Camino de Santiago desde una perspectiva interdisciplinar y actual, siempre rigurosa, escrito con vocación de llegar al gran público. El primer ejemplar de Crónica de un peregrino singular fue para el Rey de España, Felipe VI, que presidió el I Congreso Mundial Xacobeo.

"¡Ah!, pero si también escribe Marcelino Oreja...", dijo Felipe VI en Santiago de Compostela al tener en sus manos el libro Crónica de un peregrino singular, según relató en Logroño el periodista y editor de Mundiario José Luis Gómez durante la presentación de esta obra de Mundiediciones en las I Jornadas sobre Literatura Peregrina celebradas del 26 al 28 de julio de 2021, organizadas por el Instituto de Estudios Riojanos y coordinadas por el profesor y escritor David Felipe Arranz.

Al acto de presentación en Logroño asistieron, entre otras personalidades de la cultura española, los exministros César Antonio Molina y Manuel Pimentel, el gerente del Instituto de Estudios Riojanos, Diego Iturriaga, y el presidente del Ateneo Riojano, Jesús Murillo Sagredo. Un ejemplar del libro, dedicado por el presidente de la Academia Xacobea, Xesús Palmou. y el editor José Luis Gómez, forma ya parte de la histórica biblioteca del Ateneo Riojano.

El libro, como recordó José Luis Gómez en su presentación, está aderezado por unos interludios ficcionales que corren a cargo del académico y escritor Ulises Bértolo, en los que un peregrino va haciendo el Camino Francés. "Estamos, pues, ante un peregrino anónimo que podemos ver evocado en la portada de este libro, cuyo diseño ha corrido a cargo de Antonio Sangiao y en el que el dibujo del peregrino es obra del artista FrAn LaREo", destacó el editor de Mundiediciones.

A través de los distintos capítulos de la obra se pone de manifiesto que el Camino de Santiago, junto con la cultura grecorromana, el derecho romano y el cristianismo, constituyen el crisol de la cultura que hoy impulsa la consolidación política, económica y social de la Unión Europea.

Marcelino Agís, Jesús de Juana, José Manuel García Iglesias, José Eduardo López Pereira, María Josefa Sanz, Gregoria Cavero, Agustín Dosil Maceira, Xosé Fernández Lago, María Teresa Carballeira, Marcelino Oreja Aguirre -fue ministro de Exteriores durante los gobiernos de Adolfo Suárez-, Víctor Manuel Vázquez Portomeñe, Eriko Terâo, Justino Rodríguez, Ulises Bértolo y Xesús Palmou son sus autores. Todos ellos son académicos de la Academia Xacobea y profesores de Universidad o doctores. Muchos también son columnistas del periódico Mundiario, en cuyo seno ha nacido Mundiediciones.
