She begs of you, Let your emotions flow, let them become part of the mix of life. I could not reach my soul, So I sat on the shore and I rubbed the messy grit of it onto my body, The Mother sent her waves crashing against my pain, Counter-forcing sadness with joy, She says: Rise up child, come into me now. She sells seashells down by the seashore. The simplicity of that little rhyme eases me in, Comforts me. I keep repeating it in my mind. I wade in, The waves come and go, I learn to float, ride, rise and jump, I learn I can. Then I hear: Leave what you lost by loving what you live Leave what you lost by living what you love. I let go. I let The She of the Sea, Scrub me sound and found. I become the ocean for a week. A vast, bottomless well of healing. I am the motion of the Mother. On the plane ride home, The grief comes up like a Great Whale from the depths of me. I cry again. Then I recall her swell, Her assurance.
