Crossover begins with an ending-at protagonist Alissas funeral. The plot then rewinds two generations, illustrating the profound affect the experiences of Alissas immigrant ancestors had on her life.
With wit and compassion, the story follows Alissa from her unhappy childhood all the way through her life. Her first marriage, a reaction to the emotional cruelty of her parents, is a complete disaster. Alissa is broken down by her mentally abusive husband and contemplates suicide. But she finds the strength to divorce him-partly thanks to her faithful college girlfriend, Jennifer.
Alissa has two grown children, and she moves to California to be closer to her college-age daughter. She struggles, strives, and survives major life changes, including moves, marriages, career changes, and more.
As the years go by, Alissa grows in many ways. She gains spiritual depth, insight, confidence, and emotional strength, all while keeping the qualities central to her character: humor, resilience, intelligence, and fierce loyalty to the ones she loves.
Crossover is a down-to-earth tale, one every woman whose path has wound its way through dark places can relate to.
