About the Book

With evern growing sickness in Indian industries both in large scale as well as small scale, it poses a serious threat to the strong and vibrant industrial structure of the country. The loss of production, capital and employment due to industrial sickness brings much panic to the owners, employees, financial institutions, banks and government. The malady has assumed serious propertion at a time when both money market and capital market are reeling under severe resource crunch. Much needed capital are tied up in sick industrial units and huge manpower are kept in the bay. Keeping in view these developments, the present book thoroughly examines the nature of sickness in Indian industries and outlines a model to predict sickness in Indian corporate sector. The book presents a clear and systematic approach to understand the symptom and cuases of sickness in industries. This lineer discriminant mode formulated and presented in the book predicts sickness in industries with 90 percent accuracy at one year prior to the event. It als maintains 75 percent accuracy even five years prior to sickness. The model can be used for monitoring corporate health by the financial agencies and the corporate management. This model is helpful to corporate management to know the problem areas and they can overcome the problem by taking timely and effective remedial measures. The model, if used judiciously, can bring the sick industrial unites back to normal state and help in checking further spread of sickness in industries.About the AuthorDr Pramod K Sahu is the Professor of Commerce and Director, School of Business Studies, Berhampur University.
