El libro corresponde al volumen segundo de la Cristología de Juan A. Jorge, que presenta la teología sobre Jesucristo buscando dos objetivos. Por un lado, transmitir la seguridad de la fe auténtica de la Iglesia, con el consiguiente respeto cuidadoso a la Revelación en sus dos fuentes, Sagrada Escritura y Tradición Apostólica, y al perenne Magisterio de la Iglesia, comprendido con ayuda de la doctrina tomista en primer lugar, y de la de A. Gálvez, en segundo lugar. Por otro lado, se intenta poner al lector al día de los diferentes alcances que la teología contemporánea ha hecho en los temas cristológicos, exponiendo sus ideas, y criticando los resultados cuando así corresponde. Es particularmente interesante la crítica a las diferentes propuestas de la teología neo-modernista. Es, pues, un tratado que parte de la fe, y después de avanzar la investigación y estudiar las diferentes propuestas, acaba contrastando los resultados con la misma fe.

Si el primer volumen de la obra estaba dedicado a las fuentes de la Cristología, el presente se dedica al estudio del ser y del papel de Jesucristo como Mediador, por lo que está dividido en dos grandes secciones.

En la primera sección, a lo largo de tres capítulos, se indaga sobre el ser de Jesucristo, por lo tanto, sobre sus dos naturalezas (divina y humana) perfectas y completas, unidas hipostáticamente en la única Persona del Verbo. El estudio de la única Persona de Jesucristo desemboca en los diferentes aspectos que se derivan de esa unidad: la unidad psicológica, la unidad de filiación y adoración, así como el tema de la comunicación de idiomas y el de la perichóresis cristológica.

En la segunda sección, que ocupa otros cuatro capítulos, el libro profundiza en el role de Jesucristo como "El" Mediador perfecto entre Dios y los hombres, que se sustenta, precisamente, en el misterio de la unión hipostática, previamente determinada. En efecto, Jesucristo es "el camino, la verdad y la vida", lo que corresponde a su triple munus, como Rey, Profeta y Sacerdote de la Nueva Alianza. Después del estudio bíblico, patrístico y magisterial de cada uno de esos aspectos, se procede a la profundización sobre el poder de Jesucristo, los tres modos de conocimiento humano del Señor (de visión, infuso y experimental) y su compatibilidad, y, finalmente, la gracia de Cristo y sus corolarios (de unión, habitual, capital, impecabilidad y libertad del Señor).

Con ello, el discurso cristológico está preparado para enfrentar la gran obra de Jesucristo, nuestra Redención, aspecto al que se dedica el vol. III de esta serie.
