About the Book

Cricket - The Spectators Guide to the Gameis a user friendly guide to understanding the game of cricket.
Miriam Rice-Walcott has written this book with the new spectator to the game of cricket in mind, whether watching cricket at the stadium or on television. This book is also of practical use to the novice player with examples of fielding positions, pitch measurements and equipment used. It is easy to read with a Glossary of regularly used cricketing terms and expressions.

The Spectators Guide to Cricket gives an overview of the game and includes? Glossary of Cricketing Terms? A Brief history of the Game? Spectator Etiquette? Variations of the Game-Test Cricket? Variations of the Game-First Class Cricket? Variations of the Game-One Day Cricket? Variations of the Game-Twenty/20 Cricket

The book has colour pictures throughout including examples of all the Umpire signals. There are also instructions on how to score the game of cricket and sample scoring sheets.

In the ten years since the last edition of this book was published much has changed in the world of cricket. Although most of the rules of cricket have remained the same, there have been a number of changes with the evolution of the limited overs and twenty/twenty matches.

The big change has come with the growth of Twenty-20 match tournaments like the BBL (Big Bash League), IPL (Indian Premier League) and CPL (Caribbean Premier League). These innovations have opened up the sport to a much bigger audience who prefer the quick and sure result of these types of matches over the longer and uncertain outcome of a Test Match. Over 149 million fans watched the 2016 CPL season, combining broadcast and digital viewership, to make it one of the fastest growing leagues in world cricket.

In 2017 the CPL (Caribbean Premier League) will play four matches in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, USA, returning the game to one of its founding homes. USA Under 19 players will be embedded in the teams allowing them the experience of associating with some of the top professional cricketers in the world. The potential for the growth of the sport in the USA leaves it open to an even larger audience

Cricket - The Spectators Guide to the Game offers this audience of new spectators a concise and convenient user friendly access to the basic rules of the game, its terminology and equipment used.

Cricket - The Spectators Guide to the Game is not an encyclopedia of the game nor is it a rule book (although you will find access to the new Laws of Cricket inside). It is a handy guide that will leave the reader with an understanding of the game of cricket beloved by many around the world.
