The Cricket on the Hearth: A Fairy Tale of Home was written by Charles Dickens (1812-1870) and was first published in 1845. This edition contains illustrations from the original 1845 edition.

The Cricket on the Hearth follows John Peerybingle, who is a carrier (deliveryman), and his young wife Dot during three climatic days before their first wedding anniversary.

The Chimes is the third of five Christmas novellas by Charles Dickens. The five novellas are A Christmas Carol (1843), The Chimes (1844), The Cricket on the Hearth (1845), The Battle of Life (1846) and The Haunted Man and the Ghost's Bargain (1848). The most famous Christmas themed novella is A Christmas Carol.

Charles Dickens was a prolific writer of novels, novellas, short stories and other works.
