About the Book

Creolia was a simple country girl from the hills of Black John Kentucky. She loved her daddy and tolerated her mother. Creolia has an adventure that will keep you reading. She has a great imagination and dreams that do come true. Creolia's daddy made a living selling moonshine to the neighbors in the hills of Kentucky. Her daddy thinks it might be time to move to the big city. They pack up 3 boys and 4 girls in a pickup truck and the adventure begins. Everything is an adventure from her first McDonald's to their first ice box (refrigerator). The policemen are not called revenuers anymore. Overwhelmed and excited at the same time Cleveland Ohio has a lot to offer a country girl!

The Hills of Black John

It was a cold blistering night. I am all alone, nobody around but the black night hovering over my shoulder. While I lie here on the cold ground wondering why me? This is the third night alone sleeping on this cold ground. Just a week ago life was perfect. As I lay here in the dark reminiscing of just two weeks ago, what happened momma? Daddy was home with his loud laughter. "Come here Creolia sit here on papa's lap and sing me a purdy song." Daddy loved to hear me sing. That was our favorite thing to do together. My daddy ran a steel plant here in the mountains of Kentucky. My daddy and my brothers would save leftover vegetables and gather them up in the smokehouse as high as the sky. Momma would shake her head and say, "you boys are going to get into trouble one of these days!" The boys would shake their heads back at her! I really don't think momma liked it that my daddy favored me the most. When daddy isn't around she could get purdy mean at times. When he was around I was a free bird! Daddy would yell at me to go and sit on the hillside and watch out for the revenuers (policeman). He was about to start the steel to make his famous moonshine. "Ok, daddy!" I would do anything for my daddy! "Creolia! Get yourself in this house!" yelled momma. "I need you to do some work around here!"

The Miracle

I woke up and was thinking about Ola Mae and her problem with her teacher. I have been so busy I haven't had time to think about it. I prayed while I was there in bed and begged c God to give me wisdom so that she doesn't feel alone. I got up and fried an egg and made some toast in the oven. I made enough for Lou and Momma. While we were eating no one was saying much. "Oh momma, how was daddy?" I asked. "He is doing so much better! They said he can come home tomorrow!" mamma said with a smile. "Yay," said Lulabelle. "It will be good just to hear him laugh," Creolia said with a smile. "Momma I have to work after school," said Creolia. "I know, I am going to that grocery store today and applying for a job, wish me luck!" momma said with her fingers crossed. We all laughed and cleared the dishes all up. On my way to school, Freddy was walking ahead of me. I didn't say anything to him because he is a selfish boy. I am a grown girl now and am not playing games with an immature boy! I am still thinking about Ola Mae. I have to come up with something to get her out of that class! School went smoothly and now Mr. Heinchelles' class. When I walked in there was a lady at Mr. Heinchelle's desk. Oia Mae signals me over. I run over to her and she says "I wonder what is going on?
