About the Book

I lost everything I stood alone in a world that didn't want me. I am not part of the natural order. They see us as a disease, a dark blotch set upon the earth. On the other side of the field I spotted two large black stake's drove into the ground. I walked slowly across the field. Stepping over bodies and severed limbs. From the looks of the field this could have been the whole mob strewn with venerated remains. Approaching the wooden stakes I noticed that it was not just black, it was burned. Attached was my mother. Tears erupted I shifted my blurry vision over to the stake meant for my father but he wasn't there. I choked back the tears. Hope. I had hope. I scanned the ground for father and I found him. He was lying a few feet off from the spot chosen for his fiery execution. I knelt beside him he to was burned to a fragile pile of ashes. As if that was not enough to kill any vampire a small sharpen piece of wood was driven into his chest.

"Do you love these humans more than your own kind?"

It came from behind me the unmistakable voice I would never forget. The leader.

"You killed them." He mocked poking me in the chest.

"No." I said looking around. The situation did not fit. I looked up at the leader "How could they have killed my parents if they are all dead?"

"Oh that was pitiful! A whole mob with weapons and they couldn't even kill two lowly vampire scavengers. So I helped a little."

"You killed your own kind for a bunch of pathetic human?" I asked in disbelief.

"Now they're pathetic? No. I killed your parents because of this!"

The leader leaned close his face still bled from the blow I delivered with the tree branch. His blood glistened in the moon light as it fell in small drips rolling off his chin. I poisoned the leader but it wasn't enough to make him die.

"So now have you come to kill me to?" I asked almost hoping it was so.

"No wee one. If you make it through this day, I will let you live on."

I swung with my clawed fingernails missing by a half inch. The leader punched me in the chest. I fell to the ground not giving up the fight. I kicked, bit, yelled, and screamed but none of that mattered. The leader pinned me to the dirty blood soaked ground. The others appeared from nowhere one was holding Rosha.

"She's mine" I sobbed.

"I'll make a deal with you wee one. If you can catch me within three days, you can have her back. Deal?"

"Deal" I accepted.

The leader laughed. This amused him. He then jumped up dragging me by my leg. The others surrounded me they also laughed.

"My face!" The leader yelled looking down on me with the kind of hatred one should never have for it's own kind. Then he broke my leg.

"My turn!" Another yelled.

I saw the thin line drawn across his neck after all this time still healing. I hit him in a very vital spot. Then he broke my other leg. All three crowded around and stomped me,

I woke to the burning of the sun. No one has come yet to clean up the bodies. I doubt anyone will. I shielded my self from the sun with the rotting corpses of my parent's killers.
