About the Book

The Second Edition of Cosplay - The Beginner's Masterclass is longer, more detailed and has dozens of new pictures and illustrations!

Veteran cosplayers Miyuu Takahara and Kenji Weston team up experience and skills to give new and aspiring cosplayers the introductory guide they deserve.

Expertly composed, this book contains hundreds of images, many of which illustrate the advice, instruction and ideas discussed. Each cosplay topic and technique is explained lucidly, comprehensively and straightforwardly. All manner of costumes are closely examined: superheroes and supervillains, video game characters, and of course those from Japanese anime and manga culture.

Both authors tasked themselves with providing the newcomer with comprehension on every major aspect of cosplay. There is ample coverage on cosplay's culture and history, methods of sourcing materials, planning out and making a costume, plus achieving good results in cosplay photography. Ways to acquire needed materials or items to suit all budgets and lifestyles is covered intensely, while the importance of managing both your budget and time is also noted.

Later in the book, we examine how to survive and thrive in conventions, detailing the best ways to have fun at cosplay events big and small. Ways of choosing your convention, the all-important con etiquette and rules, performing at cosplay masquerades, and much more is explained.

After this section concludes, the authors commence to discuss ideas on moving beyond the beginner stages by honing various niche skills. Finally, the book concludes with a large compendium of recommended stores, communities and other resources perfect for cosplayers.

Hundreds of hours of research and collaboration were lavished upon this book. To write it, the authors drew on the spirit of commitment and passion that is at the very core of good cosplay. It is guaranteed to give newbies and beginners plus even experienced cosplayers the guidance and tips they need to do well in this, the most epic of hobbies.

Cosplay enthusiasts never have to settle for poorly edited or amateurishly made guides ever again!

Praise for Cosplay - The Beginner's Masterclass

"Cosplay - The Beginner's Masterclass is a supremely tidy intro to the art of cosplaying: committed fans and nerds don't have to look any further to get the start they need." - Deviantart book previewer and cosplayer D. Cataya

"Should be called the Cosplay Bible...this book is for people of all Cosplay levels, from beginners to experts!" - Kelly Knight

"Not only does Takahara San provide an excellent guide into the art of Cosplay preparation, but the detailed guide to convention conduct and survival is a must read for anyone planning to attend any convention." - Martin Steele
About the Author: Veterans in the field of costume design, Miyuu Takahara and Kenji Weston have for years designed and created their own striking cosplays. They frequently attend large scale anime and other themed conventions in Osaka, Tokyo and Los Angeles, and feel privileged to have experienced cosplaying in both the East and West. Kenji's personal cosplay preference is Marvel and Capcom characters, while Miyuu has held an abiding devotion to anime and manga since her childhood. Both share one great quality: enormous experience giving all kinds of advice and knowledge to fellow cosplayers. Building on this trait, the pair teamed up and began writing short primer posts on web forums, advising others on certain subjects on which they became authoritative. The ultimate step came in 2015, when they teamed up to publish Cosplay - The Beginner's Masterclass, a lengthy book that offers guidance all major aspects of cosplaying.
