"Revolucionario confeso" para el duque Carlos Augusto de Sajonia, "enemigo del trono y del altar" para sus adversarios reaccionarios, "ateo" para muchos de sus colegas hostiles, "mason", "democrata", todo ello es Johann Gottlieb Fichte. Esta Contribucion sobre la Revolucion francesa esta escrita contra los "sofistas de Alemania", los contrailustrados y retrogrados en la estela conservadora germana de Edmund Burke. La Revolucion francesa va a la par de la Revolucion filosofica, primero kantiana y despues fichteana. La causa revolucionaria es, en el fondo, la causa de la filosofia. "Contra el primer mal, contra los prejuicios y la apatia de espiritu, hay un remedio: la instruccion y la ayuda amistosa. Quisiera ser un amigo para quienes lo requieran y no tengan cerca ninguno mejor. Ese es el motivo que me llevo a escribir estas paginas" (J. G. Fichte). "Fichte, en la etapa en que se incubo el escrito aqui traducido y en la que abrazo euforicamente la causa ilustrada y revolucionaria, no cejo nunca en su empeno de rectificar juicios infundados de ancestros o coetaneos e incluso de autocorregir sus errores. Pocos como el sometieron la propia cosecha a una revision tan constante como implacable, puliendo su estilo y desbastando su pensamiento sin darse tregua" (del epilogo de Faustino Oncina). Johann Gottlieb Fichte (Rammenau, 1762-Berlin, 1814), continuador de Kant y anticipador de Schelling y Hegel, es uno de los fundadores del idealismo aleman. Estudio teologia en Jena y Leipzig con el fin de hacerse pastor, y trabajo como preceptor. En Zurich conocio a Johanna Rahn, con la que se caso y tuvo un hijo. En 1791 marcho a Konigsberg para conocer a Kant, cuyo pensamiento le habia deslumbrado. Alli escribio el Ensayo de una critica de toda revelacion, que se publico anonimamente y que muchos creyeron obra del propio Kant. Fascinado por la Revolucion francesa, escribio la Contribucion para rectificar el juicio del publico sobre la Revolucion francesa (1793), que ofrecemos aqui en traduccion de Maria Jimena Sole y con epilogo de Faustino Oncina Coves. Desde 1794 a 1799 ocupo una catedra en la Universidad de Jena, donde expuso su sistema filosofico en diferentes cursos y publico, entre otros, su Fundamento de toda la Doctrina de la Ciencia y Algunas lecciones sobre el destino del sabio. Luego de ser acusado de ateismo, se marcho a Berlin. Continuo impartiendo cursos privados y reformulando su sistema. En 1806, cuando Napoleon ocupo la ciudad, escribio los Discursos a la nacion alemana y en 1810 colaboro con los hermanos Humboldt en la fundacion de la Universidad de Berlin, de la que fue el primer rector. Maria Jimena Sole, traductora del libro, es investigadora del Consejo Nacional de Investigaciones Cientificas y Tecnicas de Argentina (CONICET) y profesora del Departamento de Filosofia de la Universidad de Buenos Aires. Es autora de varios libros, entre ellos Fichte en las Americas (2021). Faustino Oncina Coves ha sido investigador en el Instituto de Filosofia del CSIC de Madrid y en varias universidades alemanas y en la actualidad es catedratico en la Universitad de Valencia. Autor de mas de una docena de libros, su ultimo titulo es ¿Tiene porvenir el futuro? (2022).
