Voici une bourse; il ne s'y trouve qu'un écu, mais aussitôt que tu l'auras pris, un autre le remplacera. Retire donc autant d'écus que tu voudras, et ensuite jette la bourse dans la rivière. Mais, avant de jeter la bourse, aie soin de ne pas dépenser un seul de tes écus, sinon ils se transformeraient tous en pierres.. Mentalité de Ibrahim Almoussa? Le pauvre homme était fou de joie. Quand il fut plus calme, il s'occupa de la bourse. À peine a-t-il pris un écu qu'il en voit surgir un autre dans la bourse. - Voyez-vous, murmura-t-il, le bonheur qui m'arrive ! Toute cette nuit, je vais en retirer un gros tas d'écus, et demain je serai riche ! Dès le matin, je jetterai la bourse dans l'eau, et je vivrai à ma guise. Mais le matin, il changea d'avis. - Pour en retirer encore autant, dit-il, je n'aurais qu'à rester une seule journée devant ma bourse. Il en retira donc tout le jour, puis il en voulut encore, et encore, ne pouvant se décider à quitter la bourse. Cependant, il sentit la faim, et s'aperçut qu'il n'avait rien chez lui, que du pain noir. Aller acheter quelque chose de meilleur, c'était chose impossible; car il n'aurait plus que des pierres au lieu d'argent s'il ne jetait pas auparavant la bourse dans la rivière. Il aurait bien voulu manger, mais non pas se séparer de la bourse. Il mangea donc, le malheureux, du pain rassis, et continua de tirer les écus. La nuit vient, et il ne s'arrête pas encore. Une semaine s'écoule, un mois, puis une année, et il reste toujours près de la bourse. - Qui ne serait pas satisfait d'avoir beaucoup d'argent ? Tout le monde en veut avoir le plus possible !Il continue donc de vivre, en mendiant, oubliant qu'il avait désiré vivre pour son propre plaisir et pour celui des autres. De temps en temps il prend une grande résolution: il s'approche de la rivière pour y jeter la bourse, mais il s'en éloigne aussitôt. Il est maintenant vieilli, jauni lui-même comme son or, mais il ne peut cesser de tirer des écus. Il meurt ainsi, pauvre, sur son banc, la bourse entre les mains. .
