It is set to be among top ten Oil producing Countries and plans to be among 30 most competitive Economies of the world in few decades. Kazakhstan ranks seventh in terms of oil deposits and sixth in terms of gas reserves in the world. Independent Kazakhstan has emerged as a powerful Economy from the ruins of disastrous Post-Soviet market Reforms with a per capita GDP of 8500 USD that makes it the largest economy in Central Asia and second largest in CIS. Kazakhstan’s economy Accounting for 70% of the total GDP of Central Asia, is the driver of economic development and Integration in the region. In the post-independence period, thanks to its prudent policies, Kazakhstan has attracted 80 billion $ in FDI which accounts for 80% total investments in Central Asia. Kazakhstan pursues a predictable, consistent and peace-loving multi-vector foreign policy. Kazakhstan significantly contributed to world Peace and international security by voluntarily abandoning its Nuclear arsenal, the fourth largest in the world at the time of its dismantling and made major contribution in transforming Central Asia into a nuclear weapons free zone. Kazakhstan is a founding member of Sanghai Cooperation Organization and initiator of CICA. Central Asia, part of our extended neighborhood, has profound significance for India because of its Strategic location, huge natural resources, first of all, its hydrocarbon resources. India, one of the first countries to recognize Kazakhstan’s independence incidentally became the first foreign nation to be visited by President Nazarbaev, signifying India’s central place in that country’s foreign Policy agenda.
