Ensayo del año 2015 en eltema Medicina - Salud pública, Nota: 10.0, Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (Facultad de Medicina / Facultad de Psicologia), Idioma: Español, Resumen: En la IV Conferencia Mundial de la Mujer en Pekín (1995), la OMS reconoció la existencia de desigualdades de género en la salud, al tiempo que instó a los gobiernos a reducirlas. Los Estados miembros, entre los cuales España, han firmado desde entonces acuerdos internacionales en los que reconocen que el género es un determinante de la salud de las personas. La Declaración de Madrid (2001) reconoce que, debido a diferencias biológicas y a los roles de género, mujeres y hombres tienen diferentes necesidades, barreras y oportunidades en la salud. A esto, que es muy cierto en referencia a la estructura de los sistemas sanitarios, yo añadiría el hecho que también tienen distintas probabilidades (factores de riesgo) y mecanismos de enfermar, y además, por medio del fenómeno del sesgo de género en la praxis médica (sí, existe y está ampliamente reportado en la literatura ), también difieren en la forma de ser abordados diagnóstica y terapéuticamente por parte del sistema sanitario, encarnado en la figura de las y los profesionales médicos. Es sabido que las mujeres gozan de mayor esperanza de vida, pero también sufren más morbilidad, discapacidad y cronicidad; es decir, su calidad de vida es menor . Sabemos que, en parte, esto está relacionado con la relación diferencial que tienen hombres y mujeres con el sistema de salud. Las características y aprendizajes vinculados al género femenino en el sistema heteropatriarcal (docilidad, baja autoestima, dependencia, baja asertividad, falta de sororidad, conflicto con la competitividad...) y la mayor vulnerabilidad objetiva al maltrato (por parte de parejas, padres, hermanos, jefes...) aumentan la probabilidad de enfermar en las mujeres. I am working on my PhD in Health Psychology with a thesis on the sex/gender system in the medical act, while I complete my final medical internship. I also majored in Psychology at the Autonomous University of Barcelona (w/Honours), specializing in Clinical and Health Psychology. I hold a Postgraduate Degree in Integrative Psychology by the University of Girona, a Masters in Clinical Research by the Autonomous University of Barcelona, and a Masters in Gender Studies, Intersectionality and Change by the Linköpings Universitet (Sweden) [ongoing]. I have received formal training in meditation and SRHR (Sexual and Reproductive Human Rights) in Barcelona and in Lund (Sweden). I have been nominated for the National Higher Education Excellence Awards (2012) and the Prince of Girona Foundation Awards in the category of Scientific Research (2014 and 2015), and I have been awarded several national snd international research grants and scholarships, including a Catalan FI-DGR 2014, a Spanish FPU 2013, a Nova Domus 2015 at Dalhousie University (Canada) and a collaboration scholarship at the Institute of Neurosciences (2009). I am part of the Body Image Evaluation and Intervention Unit at the Autonomous University of Barcelona, the Gender and Health Promotion Studies Unit (GAHPS) and the European Union Centre of Excellence (EUCE) at Dalhousie University (Canada). I collaborate as a regular contributor to various media. I co-founded and am currently President of the the Adalet Association, a non-profit organization that works for youth's international integration and empowerment, therefore contributing to the structuring and cohesion of the European citizenship; and I am the director and editor of the Adalet Magazine, a space for the exchange of ideas, skills and points of view between young experts and an educational tool in favor of scientific literacy.
