About the Book

Lia - the second installment of the Confessions of a War Child trilogy.

Follow the journey as it twists and turns along a trail full of conspiracy, conflict, and love.

At the stroke of midnight, as soldiers storm his castle, a president, a prisoner, a declaration and a nation come to life on the pages of Confessions of a War Child- Lia.

The story begins as the President of Kabar orders his guards to bring forth the captive and captivating Lia, one of the prisoners he had jailed a year ago. Having held back his feelings from the moment he saw her, only now can he give in to his true heart.

Face to face with the beautiful Lia, he becomes lost in the depth of her eyes, declaring his undying love for the first and final time. In a gesture of remorse and regret, he forces a letter into her hand - his confession. This act - a deliberate lethal attack - is the final retaliation against two nations at war for years.

Chemical bombs have been planted throughout Kabar and the neighboring Saghar. Timed to go off at midnight, the two nations will finally be united as one - in tragedy.

Ruling with brutality for three decades, the President of Kabar has taken countless lives along the way. Now, gazing into the eyes of his beloved, without a word, he raises his gun. With a single bullet to the head, his merciless sovereignty has ended.

This compelling novel moves through the mind of a powerful leader, exploring the dark world of war that precedes the light world of peace.

"Chaker Khazaal writes, with exquisite simplicity, fables which capture perfectly this moment of rapid change in the Arab and Western world. A page turner both brutal and beautiful where love scores few clean victories, but by God it puts up a flight." Mike Finnerty, Host CBC Daybreak
About the Author: Chaker Khazaal, author of the compelling Confessions of a War Child trilogy, was born in 1987 to Palestinian parents during the civil war in Lebanon. Despite growing up in a refugee camp in Beirut, Chaker strived to make the most of any situation. He acted in several plays at local theatres and when he was 13, starred in Sugar of Jaffa, a film by Palestinian Director Hisham Kayed. At the age of 17, Chaker's strong leadership skills and highest academic average were recognized when he was awarded the prestigious Global Leader of Tomorrow Award from Toronto's distinguished York University to study Film Production and International Development Studies. Post graduation, he achieved community recognition as a public speaker on social media, refugee affairs, and global cooperation for developmental projects. Chaker has been invited to speak at venues around the world, such as Google Headquarters and the United Nations in America, University of Toronto in Canada, public schools in Norway and Ukraine, unions in Lebanon, etc. He has also been asked to manage the social media platform for several entities such as the 2014 Oscar nominated film Omar. Chaker released Part One of the Confessions of a War Child trilogy in March 2013 at the Société de Lecture Genève, Switzerland and later that year received the Award for Creativity from the Order of Saint Lazarus in California. Chaker is often featured on-air for interviews, in print and interactive digital media around the world. He is a strong advocate for refugees, encouraging youth to immigrate from refugee camps in order to establish their lives and become active members of the international economy. Inspired by the tragic Syrian confl ict and the horrific situation of refugees in the Middle East, Chaker was compelled to write the second part of his trilogy. The outcome - Confessions of a War Child (Lia)- Proof that love can grow amidst the dust of war.
