About the Book

To the young man born in the Northern Oregon town of Gresham, the world was a big place, and his home was all the safety and security he needed to keep him and his wife protected from that big world. Morton Daily loved to watch politics and world events unfold in front of his television because he could use the news to joust and parry with his liberal friends without harm to either party, for the news of the planet didn't include his little corner of the world. To Mort, being a conservative in a region dedicated to the liberal views only brought on conversation and high spirited debates, and he remained oblivious to the threat and destruction just under the currents of politics. Mort's family linage was built in the forests and meadows that surrounded their precious mountain, Mt. Hood. His great grandparent had settled the land in the eighteen hundreds and his grandfather along with Mort's father, were born there, under the mountain. He was born into a family that worked the railroads and passed their trade down to their children. Mort's father was the first to work for the tour company "Majestic River/Majestic Mountains Scenic Tour" after working for twenty years in the rail yards of Portland. Mort, like his father began working in the rail yards at a young age and remained there until a position opened at the tour company, a position he jumped for without hesitation. Once secure with his position he maintained his post as an assistant to the conductor and avidly learned every nuance to the station in hopes of securing a place as the conductor, a station of importance and status, a station he received seven years later.Mort was focusing on his new marriage to his wife Pat, who relocated to Northern Oregon, from a small town in the south of the state, three years earlier, and whom he met and married within months of her moving to Gresham. Mort's promotion to the position of Conductor was just a piece in his puzzle of security. Although he watched the world evolve on his television, he continued to view it as amusement with no significance to his world or lifestyle. In these pages, Mort's world falls apart and he is forced to see life for what it is and find his real self, letting go of the façade that was his life and his ideals. Mort is required to transport conservative Americans out of the grip of the Liberal Democrat's coup and deliver them to the safety of the Midwest.
