Dabei spielt zu Beginn eine Rolle, wie der Alltag von Jugendlichen durch digitale Spiele beeinflusst wird und weiterhin wie entwicklungsspezifische Risiken umgangen werden können und Heranwachsende vermehrt mit kompetenzförderlichen Computerspielen konfrontiert werden können. Aus diesem Grund wird sich im ersten Kapitel überwiegend auf die zentralen Strukturelemente von Digitalität und Computerspielen bezogen. Da verschiedene Spieltypen existieren, gibt es diesbezüglich unterschiedliche Elemente, welche verwendet werden, um den Unterhaltungswert für Heranwachsende zu steigern. Im zweiten Kapitel werden Reize und Motive, welche durch Spielstrukturen gegeben sind, noch weiter konkretisiert und auf die jugendliche Lebenswelt bezogen. Im folgenden Kapitel wird der Widerspruch der nötigen Medienkompetenz und von digitalen Inhalten kritisch betrachtet. Des Weiteren wird diskutiert, wie Sozialarbeiter*innen in der offenen Kinder- und Jugendarbeit, 'fachfremde' Eltern dabei unterstützen können, das erforderliche technische Wissen zu Erlangen. Zudem geht der Text darauf ein, wie Fachkräfte Jugendliche in ihrer Medienkompetenz stärken können, um angemessen auf die entwicklungsspezifischen Risiken und kompetenzförderlichen Potentiale zu reagieren.
