This book is strictly written according to the new curriculum proposed by Medical Council of India (MCI). Each practical/chapter has been aligned with the competency and the specific learning objectives are framed accordingly. It comprehensively covers the self-directed learning modules, clinical case scenarios for early clinical exposure. The section on calculations emphasizes on the measurement and calculation of various physiological parameters like cardiac output, glomerular filtration rate (GFR), etc.
This workbook is divided into six sections: Hematology, Experimental Physiology, Human and Clinical Physiology including Human Experiments and Demonstrations, Self-directed Learning (SDL) & Early Clinical Exposure (ECE), Calculations, and Spots.
In each chapter equal importance has been given to three segments, namely-Theory, Observation and Questions. As spotting is an important part of examination, spots segment has been included which comprehensively reviews important spots.

• According competency-based curriculum: This book is in strict concordance with competency based curriculum recently released by Medical Council of India (MCI). The specific learning objectives (SLOs) are framed for each chapter along with alignment of teaching and assessment methods.

• Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR): A chapter on CPR (basic life support) is added in this book as per the latest guidelines of the American Heart Association. This chapter has been reviewed and updated by the Department of Anesthesia, with whom we constantly collaborate to give the BLS training to our first year MBBS students.
• Calculations: Some important calculations are given in the Section 5 of book for the understanding of concepts of measurement of physiological quantities like cardiac output, GFR, functional residual volume, etc.
• Early clinical exposure: Early clinical exposure system-wise clinical case scenarios are given to enhance the higher level of learning of basic concept of applied physiology.
• Self-directed learning (SDL): Comprehensive SDL modules are provided for students with the SLOs to aid in self-learning styles.
• Spots: A chapter on Relevant Spots from all the sections is added where the students are required to write the identification features and their uses.
