About the Book

The articles, perspectives and ideas here were written out of the earnest desire to contribute to the on-going effort at eradicating corruption and promoting social integration and mutual development through communicating Anti-Corruption and Good Leadership Values. The motivation is to inspire selflessness, collectivism and patriotism, which are essential characteristics required in the development of a Nation.
Since Nigeria became a nation in 1960 there has been the expectation of a transformation into a developed nation as the United States of America, United Kingdom, France and others. After over 60 years of nationhood, these expectations are still distant realities. It appears as though the people of Nigeria have a cultural affinity with corruption and ideas incidental to instituting social change. There has been a civil war and an ongoing agitation seeking justice as a result of the impact of that war; there have also been agitations for equitable distribution of wealth or resource control in the oil producing areas of the Niger delta. The argument has been that natural resources should be owned and controlled by the indigenous people of the areas where these resources are found. Although this argument sounds fair and may reflect natural justice and modern democratic thinking, there is a counter argument to this position which is that, all resources equally belongs to all the peoples of Nigeria and that no part or section should claim exclusive ownership of any resources arising from proximity to such resources. The validity of these divergent arguments depends heavily on their constitutionality; that is the extent to which these arguments have been supported by the Nigerian constitution. Some have called for a sovereign national conference to discuss these problems and evolve a new constitution. Some others are calling for amendment to relevant sections of the constitution, especially the exclusive legislative list and there are also yet calls for secession by some others. The Christian/ Muslim divide is another aspect to these arguments. All these have created insecurity, weakening by it our national bond and unity.
While the political process remains to find workable solutions to these problems, this work is an attempt to reawaken national unity, patriotism and a humanity centred consciousness for the development of Nigeria. This is based on the premise that development is directly linked to existential needs of love and belongingness. That is, the more people show concern for themselves the less likely they will do things to hurt that bond and in contrast, the less people show concern for themselves the less likely they will commit to ideals of collective wellbeing.

This work is an advocacy approach to addressing various lingering social and economic challenges of Nigeria, especially in the areas of corruption and development. It is divided into 7 parts focused on a specific subject matter. Each of the seven parts is composed of articles addressing an aspect of the main subject matter. For example, the first part has the theme, "Sundry Thoughts". In this section I have included original quotes from known authors, leaders and ideas, inspirational thoughts on various issues I have had in the course of writing for 20 years. Part 2 looks at the subject of; Education and National Development; Part 3 is on Corruption and National Development; Part 4 is on National Rebirth; Part 5 is on Recruitment and Leadership Selection; Part 6 is on Humanitarian Ideals and Religion, while Part 7 focuses on Poetic Verses on Personal evolution, Social change, Terror and Corruption.
God Bless Nigeria
