A muy leve csta se puede cumplir tal precepto cuand se trata de reimpri mir las comedias de Dn Pnnn &nnnnn un LA Bnca hecha esta bien mal, su higrana, y publicads hay harts dictamenes prpicis y adverss al escritor; la lista de sus producciones a'rreglada por rden rigoroso de tiemps, no puede hacerse cmpleta. Se ns ha conservad la fecha de algunas; tras que recuerdan sucesos cntempranes, la traen en su prpi cntext; de las restantes, aunque sepamos el ano de una impresion ignoramos cuand fueron escritas o representadas pr primera vez. Salieron luz, com expresamente dice en su Biblioteca Niclas Antnio, parte sueltas, y parte en cleccin, siendo muy probable que las cleccinadas hubie ran sido antes impresas separadamente; per de aquellas ediciones originales, rar es el ejemplar que se halla, y aun ls que aparecen, aprvechan muy pc. En razn de que n suelen traer an puebl, ni tieina de la impresin falta ntable, por la cual n podems contestar victrisamente a ls eruditos franceses, que ase guran hoy cn grande ufania que no fue Pedro Corneille quien imito en su Heraclio, cm generalmente se bahia creido hasta ahora la comedia de Cannn titulada En esta vida tdo es verdad y todo mentira, sin que pr el contrari nuestr peta mit en esa cmpsicin al autor de Cinna y de Poh'euct. Reducese pues nuestra tarea casi exclusivamente en esta ocasin a reunir y trasladar escrits ajenos para n repetir lo que esta ya dich. Y aunque se leeria mejor, traducida en lenguaje mas llan la biografia de Canuanu rdenada por Dn Juan de Vera Tasis y Villarrel, que esla quese ponia en tdas las ediciones del autr que reimprimimos; com al cab es la mas autrizada cm n pdriams hacer mas que renvarla en su mayor parte, crrigiendo si ls yerros que nto en ella Dn Gaspar Agustin de Lara; la hems adoptado aqui agregandle alguna nticia, de pco bulto a la verdad que pr tr lado hems adquirid. La cnsideracin ya expuesta de sernos imposible decir nada nuev deberia impedirnos tratar del merit respectivo de las bras de Ouonou pr que habiendo formado'ls preliminares de este vlumen cn veinte articuls de diez y ocho plumas e9panolas(mu y ilustres algunas), que frman una com galeria critic - his torica desde los tiempos de Cannnu hasta el presente, dillcil seria dar cn un peu samiento que alli n estuviese ya frmulad con declarar que el xvm, escrito pr el Ilustrisimo Senr Don Antoni Gil de Zarate es el que mejr ns parece, ahorrabamos trabajo el lector y nstrs. Pero juzgaron tan desacertadameute en nuestro cncepto a Cannn un[. A Banca cierts humanistas y petas del sigl pasad que n pode mos consentir se lean sus equivcadas censuras, hasta haber hecho al lector alguna advertencia para que asi con plen cnocimiento de causa ls juzgue a ells y ns juzgue a nostros. Vams pues a decirle alg de l que pensams de Ganams.
