He retired as Deputy Chief and went on to become Chief of Police of the Lubbock, Texas, Police Department.Upon retirement as chief of the city police, he began a new phase of law enforcement as chief of a school district police department in Lubbock. He continues in that role and serves as President of the Texas Association of School District Police.Thomas Nichols is a member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police, the Police Executive Research Forum, the Texas Police Chiefs Association, the Fraternal Order of Police, the Texas Municipal Police Association, and the National Association of School Safety and Law Enforcement Officers.
