About the Book

Lessac Kinesensic Voice and Body Training is an approach to voice, speech and movement that offers a unique way of learning and developing by discovering the synergy amongst all three modalities. Based on sensory learning and kinesthetic awareness, Lessac training is a bio-sensory approach that uses body and vocal energy states to awaken a largely untapped reservoir of knowledge, spirit, and perceptive awareness. Research by Arthur Lessac in the areas of voice, speech, body training, and clinical therapy has revealed a dynamic discipline applicable to artistic performance, athletics, therapy and personal well-being. The purpose is to deepen communication, enhance human potential, foster self-teaching, and promote creativity in everyday, professional and artistic endeavors. The Lessac Kinesensic Voice and Body Training is a resource that facilitates and extends optimal human behavior, performance, and clinical therapy. Its application can be found in colleges and universities, secondary schools, research institutions, theatre companies, and workshops in the United States and abroad. This book is a collection of personal experiences of and testimonies to the work, as well as research that engages with and extrapolates from the training, and is offered here as a dedication to Arthur Lessac. Marth Munro located her MA and PhD research around the Lessac work. She earned full Lessac Certification in 1990. She is a Certified Laban/Bartenieff Movement Analyst and a qualified Hatha Yoga Teacher. In 2006 she became a rated researcher in the discipline of Theatre through the National Research Foundation in South Africa. She has published widely. She has taught Voice and Movement for Performers at several Tertiary Institutions and presents workshops and papers internationally. She directs for various genres. Sean Turner is currently a doctorate candidate in the School of Education at the State University of New York at Buffalo. Over the past ten years, he has directed various performing arts and literacy programs for pre-adjudicated youth and special populations in New York City and holds teaching certificates in Special Education, Drama, and English Language Arts. Sean earned a Masters of Arts in Drama from the University of Oklahoma (1999), a Masters of Science in Special Education from Hunter College (2003), and full Lessac Certification in 2003. Allan Munro has an MA and a PhD in Theatre from The Ohio State University. He has presented and published nationally (in South Africa) and internationally. He has written and directed a number of plays. He attempts to blend art making and research and has developed a course demystifying research in the Arts which he has taught a several universities. His current concerns are around practice-based or Arts-based research. He is a full professor at the Tshwane University of Technology, South Africa. Kathleen Campbell (PhD) is Professor of Communication Studies at Austin College in Sherman, Texas where she teaches courses in performance, design and dramatic literature. She has directed, designed, and voice coached for a variety of theatres and writes often on Shakespeare in performance. She has been a fully certified Lessac teacher since 1996.
