Pero cada día hay más para cantar, sobre todo, las algas que adornan el cuello de la princesa. Se disimula la partida. Nadie sabe cuándo será. Yo tras el árbol cargado de fechas violetas, doy flores. Seguirán pasando las señoras por la alameda y el río de pájaros, alzará su vuelo para trinar aun cuando haya hombres en guerras y sin paz. Yo que vengo de aquel campo tan lejano de Cuba, me presume el silencio a libertad, y el mapa que cuelga en la arrugada pared me desvela. Hay risa en lo que el verano esconde. ¡Lo sé bien! Aunque, también sé que siempre habrá oasis en el desierto. Ser como no he sido, dijo aquella vez la mariposa, y volaron muchas gaviotas sobre los libros de Martí. Porque cada hombre fue fusil y una batalla de versos. Sobre todo, cuando hablaba de la tregua del manantial, de las aguas caprichosas que no se dejaban beber. Mas, escondido quedó allí un día, un amarillo poemario. Las viudas seguían llorando al cielo. Cada cuadrante de sus estantes vacíos necesitaba poesías, gentes que le quitaran del desgarrado sufrir que las aferraba y llegó alguien, cargado de una alforja de estrofas. Nadie murió porque nadie tenía que morir. Siguieron dando flores los rosales y hubo luna llena. Donde siempre se sembró, nacía el chocolate del existir. Una ventana se abrió. Se habían cerrado las esencias. Mas, hubo amor y brindis en los manantiales. Y ya por el final del camino, amaneció la alborada. Ya se veían las luces de las cataratas del Niágara. Aquellas arenas eran limpias al cielo de los ojos. Se empezaba a dar el amar en forma de premio. Se enredaba la desembocadura de dos ríos. Ahora aquí, mueren las últimas líneas embelesadas de la norteña prosa, ubicada por el continente africano, en los recuerdos del Sahara de mi escapada mochila. Pero así, queda conformada la dulce sequía del desierto, cuando lo eterno y pueril, es bañarse en su remanso.
