About the Book

All Greg and Laura had to do was pretend the nightmares that disturbed their slumbers were not real. The horrid dreams came every night, bubbling memories to the cusp of their collective consciousness. The visions revealed over and over again the part they had unwittingly played in the recent war. They dared not speak aloud about their dreams, knowing that if they communicated their memories to each other, the dreams would become a reality they would have to acknowledge. The year 2532 had been very good to Greg and Laura Ebert. Their careers as doctors had prospered. It was Christmas Eve; they had a beautiful named Kyra who was tucked snugly in her bed. Everything was as good as it ever got for anybody other than the Governor's family here in the royal capital city of Novogau. Then, on this night of nights, Kyra found a freshly cut human heart lying next to her bed. The child shook with terror and it took a while to calm her. When she had been sufficiently reassured so that she could fall asleep waiting for the wonders of Christmas morning, Greg and Laura finally knew they had no choice. They had to acknowledge to each other that they remembered everything, all of it. Laura was compelled to serve the heart to her husband for dinner. As the couple feasted on the organ, they remembered their shared past, the awful slaughter that occurred in the war against an earlier race of humanoids that they called Homo sapien. The organ they dined on was cold and tough, a Nova sapien heart, not warm and juicy like the heart of a Homo sapien. The aorta and ventricles that they dined on had once beaten in the chest of a Nova sapien, one of their own kind. Perhaps it was even the heart of one of their now missing friends... several of them had recently disappeared. There were whispers that these people had been openly talking about the awful war, a war that no sane person acknowledged ever happened. The Governor even forbade people to speak the names of the missing; it was as if they never existed. Laura remembered how she had not known at first that she was different. But it was only when she cut her self and the cuts healed instantly, when others aged and died and she didn't, when she picked up a horse as if it were a feather, that she realized just how different she was. So she did the only thing she could to survive, she moved around and hid in plain sight. But eventually they caught her, they introduced her to Greg, who was just like her, and tried to make them enemies of their own kind. Then the people from the future arrived, people like them, and so there was war across the ages. And now they sat, seven years after their minds were supposedly wiped, remembering everything but understanding almost nothing of what it all had meant. Suspense abounds as the new science fiction thriller Coldheart Origin of Species reveals the advent of a new human species. Evolution continues. We are not alone! They are here among us, with us, as we once were with the Neanderthals.
