En 1872, como fragmento del movimiento de civilización de la barbarie, la invención de la figura de "parque nacional" (y su legitimación política, jurídica y social) constituyó una estrategia de apropiación material y conceptual del territorio, situada en el contacto del avance del Estado-Nación sobre las "tribus" y de la expansión del capitalismo. No es casual la adjetivación usada por sus creadores norteamericanos: los parques fueron llamados nacionales y no federales, por su ámbito de dependencia administrativa, ni salvajes de una manera análoga, por el grado de intervención humana.
Hoy transcurrido más de un siglo, en medio de una época caracterizada por los problemas ambientales, si estos distritos especiales son apreciados legítimamente como espacios de conservación de la biodiversidad, resulta igualmente válida su percepción como reservas alegóricas de la memoria de una tipología humana entendida únicamente en función del proceso de confirmación de los territorios nacionales. Ante la destrucción progresiva de la naturaleza y en tiempos de globalización y creciente uniformidad de paisajes y modos de vivir, como manifiesto de interés general en favor del sostenimiento de la abundancia de la diferencia y como proyecto de transformación de la potencia de los mundos imaginarios en el acto de otro mundo real, "re-pensar" (re-significar, re-crear, re-inventar) el conjunto de significaciones de estos escenarios patrimoniales representa, junto a la posibilidad de aprender de nuestras experiencias históricas y a la oportunidad de sus usos múltiples renovados, una contribución a la defensa y el resguardo de la diversidad natural y cultural del planeta.

Norberto Fortunato es Licenciado en Demografía y Turismo (Universidad Argentina John F. Kennedy) y Magister en Políticas Territoriales y Ambientales (Universidad de Buenos Aires), con formación docente para el nivel educativo superior (Instituto Santo Tomás de Aquino).
