Zudem soll veranschaulicht werden, wie der Prozess der Bildung und die Organisation der Rebellengruppen und ihrer Dörfer war. Dabei liegt der Fokus auf den sozialen Aspekten sowie den Konflikten innerhalb dieser unterschiedlichen Gemeinschaften. Wie haben es die Cimarrones geschafft, dass ihre Palenques über einen langen Zeitraum bestehen blieben? Wie haben sie sich politisch und sozial organisiert? Wie haben sie sich verteidigt, was waren ihre Techniken? Und was waren ihre Motive? Gab es auch Konflikte untereinander? In diesem Rahmen soll zu Beginn auf die Geschichte des transatlantischen Sklavenhandels eingegangen werden sowie auf das Alltagsleben der Sklaven und die Zusammensetzung der Gesellschaft in Cartagena im 17.Jahrhundert. Im weiteren Verlauf wird der "guerra de los cimarrones" mit all seinen sozialen Konflikten beleuchtet, der den historischen Verlauf der Cimarronaje anhand einiger historischer Quellen skizziert. Dabei wird auf mehrere wichtigen Personen und Konflikte eingegangen, die wichtig für den Verlauf der Geschichte der Cimarrones waren, von der Gründung der ersten Palenques bis zum ersten freien Dorf Südamerikas. Das allgemein übergeordnete Ziel der Arbeit soll sein, die unterschiedlichen Lebensweisen der Cimarrones darzustellen. Seit Beginn der afrikanischen Sklaverei gab es Aufstände dagegen. So begingen Sklaven zum Teil Selbstmord, während andere von den Haciendas, Plantagen oder Minen flohen, mit der Hoffnung auf ein neues Leben in einem Palenque. Die Begriffe Sklaverei, Freiheit und Cimarronaje stehen alle in Beziehung zueinander. So kann die Cimarronaje als Ausdruck für die Suche nach Freiheit und die Palenques als Antwort für die Behandlung der Spanier gegenüber den
