About the Book

"Church: What Was God Thinking?" - Many of us have asked this question one time or another. There are numerous ideas out there, and a lot of people feel they already know. And yet there are an increasing number of individuals struggling with dissatisfaction and disconnection with the modern church. What would happen if we took Scripture at face value, set aside some traditions and examine principles that can be applied to any church regardless of structure? - "Church: What Was God Thinking?" takes on topics that may seem familiar, but with a fresh approach and point of view beyond what many are used to. Bruce Isom digs deep into Scripture and personal experience as a missionary and church planter to bring insight into God's intent for church, participation and the use of spiritual gifts. His unique approach allows for a perspective that has been overlooked for many years. It will help leaders rethink how they approach ministry. It will help believers view Church as never before. He gives a picture of Christian community that is vastly different from many churches today. It examines the questions: - What is Church supposed to look like? - What is my role? - What is my gift? - Where do I fit? - God created every Christian to be an instrument of the Holy Spirit. God gives His Spirit to empower His people to do things His way. Each person must know their calling and be healed from their past to move into His destiny. This book talks about the power tools that God makes available for every believer and the difference those tools make in fulfilling God's purposes. - Content includes: - What the Bible says that God likes and dislikes in a Christian community - Principles that can be applied to any church structure, whether traditional church, cell church, house church or any other type of gathering - What spiritual maturity is and what it is not, as well as ways the believer can mature - How Christians from different maturity levels can bless each other - And so much more!
About the Author: Since committing his life to the Lord in 1974, Bruce Isom has had a passion to see Church become all it was meant to be. In 1988, he became a missionary in Hong Kong serving the Lord with his family in various types of ministry, including church planting, discipleship, prayer ministry, and developing ministry materials, also working with street kids, the homeless, former drug addicts, and grassroots people including the working poor. He longs to see all believers in the Body of Christ become mature, living out their full potential and fulfilling their God-given roles in the Church.
