About the Book

Morals and guidance used to be on the front burners in the life of children from the moment they were pushed out of a mother's stomach to face life in this world. A few years ago parents paid more attention to values of good manners, being polite and kindness than they did to quality of foods they children used to sustain them. We seldom hear thank you, excuse me or sorry coming from the mouths of the young these days. When an act like bouncing into another is committed accidentally or inadvertently it seems as if it's so difficult for individuals to apologise. In this book I am trying to get those values which were embedded in homes of yesteryear to return. They made life worth living. We appreciated each other and offered assistance to others when in a position to do so. My first deed as far as I could remember was helping an old lady to cross the street to prevent her from being struck by an oncoming vehicle. We did those kind deeds because we were taught to be our brothers and sisters keepers. Everybody was somebody back then. This book offers the chance for us to get back to basics with our children. The aim of this material is to help children to see that there is no sense in doing drugs. They will appreciate that caving in to peer pressure and committing heinous crimes is a 'no no'. When feeling depressed and life seem hopeless they would be able to use this book as a reservoir of knowledge which offers hope. Poetry and short stories are abandoned in recent time. Video games have driven the youth away from reading and analytical thought. I hope that educational institutions will use this book to focus the young into cultivating positive values. Parent too should ensure that this material is made available to their children and by extension their nephews and nieces and family friends' children. Together we can make this world a better place. I take this opportunity to express sincere thanks to Mrs Pamela Amun Principal of the Chaguanas South Secondary in Trinidad who saw the value of this book in shaping attitudes and behaviour. She has used it in a pilot project in her school with great success. You will never regret helping me to make this world a better place.
