About the Book

Chicago is an emotional drama that follows the downfall of lead character Julian Jakos, chronicling the toll he takes as his life heads in the wrong direction. After finishing university and spending two years at his first professional position in Boston, Julian moves to Chicago with the confidence that things in his life are going to continue to rise. However, due to a combination of poor choices and bad luck his progress is derailed as he wrangles to get through heartbreak, a verbally abusive boss, bankruptcy, and being trapped in a lease with a mentally ill roommate that compulsively hordes and spreads his feces. At his lowest Julian is pawning his worldly possessions and going to a church basement for food handouts struggling with poverty and depression through the unceasing cold of the Windy City winters. Can Julian sustain his sanity through the hard times or is he destined to crumble under the circumstances? Find out in this moving ride that's sure to make you laugh, cry and contemplate the way you look at uniquely American-style adversity.
About the Author: Born in Kalamazoo Michigan on September 14th 1977, Daniel Spero is a novelist, scriptwriter, journalist, drummer, entertainer and noted scatologist. He has penned seven novels including Battle Creek, Fall 98, Chicago, The Greek Tragedy, Hun King the Ice-Head and White Horse and A Life in Concert, all semi-autobiographical retrospectives that wring out the adventures and absurdity we collectively experience in contemporary life. Daniel has ten film scripts and two TV show pilots to his credit, including writing the first season of the gritty dramatic series, Expat. Furthermore, Daniel has an extensive portfolio of freelance journalistic pieces, writing for newspapers, magazines and websites; and he was the drummer for the groove jazz organ trio, Altiro, Chicagoland's premiere soul-jazz trio of 2004 and 2005. Daniel currently lives in Saigon where he writes journalistically and creatively, raises his daughter Maya, and dabbles in stand-up.
