About the Book

The Chez Teresa Recipe Book features detailed recipes of some of the delicious sweets and treats that we serve in our tea room 'Chez Teresa' in the Loire Valley in the West of France. Located next door to the ancient abbey of Fontevraud where Queen Eleanor of Aquitaine, Henry II and their son Richard the Lionheart are buried, we have customers visit us from around the globe many of whom ask for our sweet bake recipes such as John Blair's Apple and Fig pudding, 'The Most decadent Chocolate Cake in the world' and more basic recipes such as sweet scones and the infamous Queen Victoria Sandwich known to us as Le gateau de préférence de la reine Victoria. The book also includes ideas for creating the perfect ambiance for a successful afternoon tea party from place settings to music to floral displays. In addition there are anecdotes and background information about living in the Jardin de France. Blending this with information about the local markets on her doorstep, regional produce and a snapshot of the history of the locale, the author has produced a book containing favourite tried and tested recipes and also ideas giving an insight into the life and times of running an English style Salon de Thé in the Loire Valley in France
About the Author: Teresa Dolan was brought up in the South-East of England. Her background is in arts project management, education and writing and she has a Masters from City University. Teresa has a passion for baking which led to her recently being described in the magazine France Living as 'The passionate baker of Fontevraud'. Teresa learnt to bake on her Mother's knee and can remember making cup cakes long before she started primary school. She loves to experiment with new recipes and is thrilled when she receives the kind of positive feedback that she often does from visitors to her tea room in France. Teresa believe strongly that throwing afternoon tea parties is one of life's joys. She is also a passionate collect of all things vintage and in particular anything relating to the theme of tea time from beautiful cake stands to exquisite tea pots and tea sets. With her husband Tony, and son Jay, she runs a Salon de Thé/petit restaurant and Chambre d'Hôtes in the ancient village of Fontevraud in the Loire Valley where her neighbour is the historic abbey. Teresa has written for a number of International publications over the years including newspapers such as the Weekly Telegraph. She was for over two years the Pays de la Loire correspondent for the now sadly defunct French News. Teresa also writes short stories for children and since moving to France in 2005 has undertaken a number of creative writing projects including one initiative with her local school in France featuring her cat William leading to the children writing their own illustrative versions of the story and annotating them in English as part of a learning English assignment.
