Tal vez para huir de esa familia, O'Neill se embarco como marinero en el Charles Racine y recalo en Buenos Aires. Ignoraba que asi se iba a encontrar con otras formas del infierno: el amor imposible de una prostituta, el hambre y la soledad. Regreso a su pais un ano mas tarde. Llevaba consigo una tuberculosis incipiente y un poema, "Ceniza de orquideas," que nunca publico. Jorge Paolantonio eligio ese titulo para nombrar a esta novela que da cuenta de los dias de Eugene O'Neill en Buenos Aires. Vicente Battista Ceniza de Orquideas se redacto bajo la Beca del Fondo de las Artes de Argentina (1997/1998), fue finalista del Premio Planeta (2000) y elegida por el Programa "Opcion Libros para la diversidad cultural," Secretaria de Cultura de Buenos Aires (2004). Obtuvo la distincion "Letras de Oro: Novela destacada del Ano 2004" de la Fundacion Honorarte y el 1er. Premio Municipal de la Ciudad Autonoma de Buenos Aires a la Produccion Literaria (2007, correspondiente al Bienio 2002/2003). Jorge Paolantonio nacio en 1947, en Catamarca, Argentina. Egresado de la Universidad Nacional de Cordoba, realizo estudios de posgrado en Literatura Contemporanea en Stockwell College, Kent, y de doctorado en lenguas modernas en la Universidad del Salvador. Ejerce la docencia a nivel universitario, es traductor literario y periodista. Tiene publicados nueve libros de poesia, el mas reciente es Peso Muerto / Dead Weigth (2007). Se han estrenado cinco piezas de su autoria y la mayoria de sus textos dramaticos estan incluidos en los volumenes Teatro 1 (2003) y Teatro 2 (2007). Su novela Ano de Serpientes (Ultimo Reino, 1995) obtuvo el 1er. Premio Nacional del Encuentro Patagonico de Escritores. Su novela Algo en el aire (Biblioteca Breve / Seix Barral, 2004), fue finalista del Premio Latinoamericano Planeta en su version 2003."
