Es Cazzoas uno de esos personajes mágicos de la literatura que surgen y se imponen a su autor, perplejo ante la fuerza de ese ser, que aparece de la nada como una revelación divina, y se queda. Estaba iniciando José Elgarresta su blog Todynada, cuando, tras una mirada a la historia en la tercera entrada, aparece Evángelos Cazzoulas, o Cazzoas, el poeta resucitado: el autor afirma que se comunicó con él a través del sueño. Desde ese momento, se convierte en protagonista y, en ocasiones, autor de su propia historia, que el lector deberá recomponer, ya que le llega sin respetar una cronología y a través de diversos tipos de escritos: diario en prosa, poemas, cartas, arengas, comentarios de compañeros de armas o amigos e informaciones que nos hace llegar un narrador externo. La presentación del personaje nos la hace el narrador, que nos da noticia del poeta y de su prematura muerte ya en la primera entrada en la que aparece. Después llegarán algunos poemas y textos en prosa, podríamos hablar de fragmentos de un diario. En definitiva, una serie de manuscritos que se encontraron tras su muerte. Estamos, por tanto, ante una obra singular, originalísima e innovadora que mezcla distintos tipos de escritos y no se ajusta a un único género literario, sino que participa de varios. Aunque esencialmente lírica, ya que incluye numerosos fragmentos de un diario, reflexiones y más de treinta poemas, la historia de Cazzoas es, también, épica: se sugieren sus hazañas en el frente y participamos de sus ideales en pos de la Magna Grecia. Quiere, como Alejandro, hacer de la cultura griega el centro del mundo: lucha contra los turcos y critica el egoísmo y la crueldad de las grandes potencias que utilizan al pueblo griego. Se convierte en héroe a nuestros ojos: un héroe abocado a la muerte, pero que solo así, yendo al encuentro su destino, caminará hacia la inmortalidad. Es lo que él llama "hacerse tiempo", "una forma de ser eterno". Es clave esta idea: a cada uno le espera su destino y hay que avanzar hacia él. ("Yo no la cambiaría [mi vida] por ninguna otra, a pesar del dolor y del sufrimiento. Me he dado a mí mismo y a otros la oportunidad de decidir" de "Un momento en el combate").
About the Author: Nací en una ciudad lo suficientemente grande como para que no se notase (Madrid) y ése ha sido precisamente mi gran drama existencial: nunca se ha notado mi presencia en ningún sitio, hasta el punto que he comenzado a preguntarme si es real, extremo que constituye el tema fundamental de mi obra y en el que coincido con la mayoría de los creadores de todos los tiempos, así como con mi amigo el quiosquero, los empleados de la tienda de ultramarinos donde sigo comprando y la mayoría de los que conozco. Por consiguiente, no debería sentirme solo, pero así es y ello constituye otro gran misterio que también forma el núcleo de mi obra: un extraño déficit de afecto que me lleva a intentar encontrar mi hogar en el universo, que es, como todos sabemos, una casa demasiado grande, donde cualquiera puede perderse y de hecho así sucede, sin que hasta el momento haya encontrado la explicación. De todo ello se sigue que cuanto he escrito es una interrogación abierta y me temo que continuará de la misma forma hasta el final, porque el hombre existe en el mundo como pregunta. Durante toda mi vida me he visto impelido a desahogarme con las cuartillas y esta grafomanía explica todos mis libros. Los temas son muy variados: Dios, el amor y la muerte. No creo que se pueda escribir sobre más cuestiones, aunque lógicamente los matices son infinitos.
