About the Book

En este trabajo se detalla ampliamente a la enzima que causa la hipertensión arterial, denominada enzima convertidora de angiotensina-I (ECA-I); se describe química, filogenética y molecularmente; se detallan sus dos dominios homólogos (Dominios N y C), abarcando sus sitios catalíticos y la especificidad por sustratos, entre otras cosas. Se muestra que el Dominio-N tiene mayor carga positiva, mayor resistencia y temperatura de desnaturalización, así como menor dependencia a la activación de su sitio catalítico, con la concentración de cloro, que el Dominio-C. La ECA-I puede existir en dos isoformas: somática y testicular; siendo la primera la que participa en la hipertensión arterial. Se evidencia la existencia de una enzima homóloga a la ECA-I, denominada ECA-II. Asimismo, se explican los sistemas renina-angiotensina y kalicreína-kinina y todos los productos que se forman en la cascada, en los cuales hay sustancias vasodilatadoras, además de las vasoconstrictoras. También se señalan los fármacos con poder de inhibición de esta enzima, así como las desventajas y contraindicaciones asociados a ellos. Por último, se mencionan, los péptidos con poder antihipertensivo.
