Las mujeres Piratas son muy atrevidas, ya sea un procedimiento indispensable para obtener venganza, crear una distracción, o como sea, son incandescentes, la naturaleza es totalmente oportunista, los hombres Piratas son oportunistas, pero ellas les dicen háganse a un lado y observen como se hace.

Para entender a los Piratas hay que estar, resentidos. Solo alguien así puede atreverse a crear una zona autónoma, fuera del alcance de la opresión, incluso de reinos y gobiernos. Un enclave Pirata, sin permiso de nadie. Proto-anarquista, en el cual las relaciones interpersonales mejoran. Si, mejoran, y lo confirma Jannick, el jefe de velas, un afroamericano, negro, un ser aborrecido por los ricos blancos finos, y otros no tan finos de la época. Así que por las venas de Jannick circula más venganza que sangre. Con su parte del oro podrá por fin humillar a todos aquellos que lo han humillado.

Hablando de negros, en la antigüedad los Piratas quedaron super completos cuando se les comenzaron a sumar los negros que se atrevían a huir de la esclavitud y de sus insensibles amos. Los negros junto con los resentidos de todas clases y colores llegaban corriendo como abejas a un panal que no tenía reino. Y semejante poder es, peligroso. Es lógico que urgía exterminar a los Piratas. Y así se hizo. ¿Cómo es posible que personas supuestamente de lo peor lograran crear el mejor sistema de gestión empresarial en toda la historia de la humanidad?, uno que no se usa por supuesto, ha sido curiosamente olvidado. Qué raro, inmediatamente fueron catalogados como la escoria del mundo, igual que en la inquisición en la que acusaban a una mujer de bruja por ser inteligente, quemándola viva por cometer tan terrible pecado. Alguien libre merece la horca, es una pena.

Y hablando de brujas hay dos chicas en la tripulación, una se llama Zenda, tan deprimida como frustrada, quien decepcionada de los hombres, encuentra con los Piratas las tres cosas que ella sin saber siempre quiso: Primera, ser inocente. Segunda, ser absolutamente deseada, tan irracionalmente deseada como sea posible. Y tercera, ser respetada, por no decir, temida. Su vida no será la de una obrera sino la de una reina. Por cierto que para ser reina básicamente hay que ser solo una cosa, una auténtica Pirata.

La otra chica, Naysa, ella es todo lo contrario. Ella es feroz, tan feroz y temible como una tormenta de noche en medio del mar. La gente intuye, de solo verla nadie se mete con ella. Para ahorrarse el tiempo y para que no la molesten, Naysa ha logrado desarrollar la amabilidad de un hielo.

De inicio a fin figuran dos creaturas: Niebla, un perro que no conoce las correas y que no las conocerá nunca mientras alguien de la tripulación viva. Y Ares, un loro sin jaula, que vuela, ha aprendido a repetir palabras y es muy mal educado, siempre hace su santa gana. Es interesante el concepto que la tripulación tiene sobre las mascotas y la libertad.

Ellos dan con algo que los meterá en una situación que, de ocurrir un milagro y salvarse, sus vidas serían de lo más polémico que ha existido en todos los tiempos. Una rebelión moderna está por comenzar. Piratas, supuestamente ya no existen, pero en doscientos años el Ron solo parece ser un poco más refinado.
