About the Author: ABOUT ME ... I have always been a "word" person. About age ten, I was writing little skits for the neighborhood kids to perform on our front porch -- while our adoring parents sat in dumpy little chairs and dutifully applauded. I got better at writing as the years rolled by and launched a career in free- lance journalism. My main interest has always been in early American history and the back stories of the men who made this country great. A book on that subject is currently in the making. Sometimes I think I was born in the wrong century. But marriage and children and animals, mostly cats, were also in the mix. My oldest daughter was born with a tender heart for every stray cat who wandered into our yard, and there were many. My husband specialized in cat jokes, but always seemed to have a cat in his lap - because, of course, they loved his lap. When I became a widow, a wonderful Cat Rescuer brought me Cally, a one-pound ball of fur that captured my heart. Cally soon took control, as cats do. And that first December, she wrote to all my friends, letting them know how and what we were doing. The next year she gave everyone an update. So it continued year after year, until she had her own fan club. But the fan club grew impatient. They wanted more, and they didn't want to wait 12 months to hear more. By this time, Cally had made friends in the neighborhood, so she included their stories. Then she expanded her reach to Facebook. The stories poured in - unique cat stories. The fan club was overjoyed. So this is the year Cally put it all together in one book, and named it Cally Tales. She hopes you enjoy it. As for me, I write down what she tells me to. She still runs the show. And in my spare time, I continue writing my book on America's greatest.
