About the Book

In this new book about the British Raid on Danbury, Connecticut, in 1777, Stephen Darley includes an extensive roster of 58 companies from towns in Connecticut and New York, consisting of 1026 American patriots who participated in the skirmishes fought to stop the British from returning to their vessels in Long Island Sound after destroying supplies in Danbury. Included in the book are a variety of accounts of the events that took place from April 26-28, 1777. The accounts include pension applications, journals, letters and memoirs, as well as contemporary newspaper accounts. New information is presented on the ride by Sybil Ludington of Dutchess County as well as the "Paul Reveres" who were responsible for the Call to Arms in Connecticut. The book contains an updated listing of the men who were killed in the battle of Ridgefield, Connecticut, and examines the marker relating to the burial of eight Patriot and 16 British soldiers on the Ridgefield battlefield. Also included is an in-depth look at the life and career of General David Wooster of New Haven, who was killed at Ridgefield.
