About the Book

Antonio Calatayud nació en Santiago de Cuba, en la provincia de Oriente, Cuba, el 3 de Octubre de 1939, donde, de joven, dirigió la revista Voz Nueva y el programa Radio Tribuna Popular. Publicó poesías y artículos en diarios de su ciudad natal. Fue dirigente estudiantil y participó en el proceso revolucionario insurreccional. Ya triunfante la revolución, fue perseguido por su posición pública anticomunista y por sus actividades clandestinas contra la dictadura allí implantada. Logró abandonar el país en una pequeña embarcación llegando a salvo a las costas de Cayo Hueso el 7 de Diciembre de 1960. Veterano de la Brigada 2506, participó en las operaciones militares de la invasión a Cuba, iniciada el 17 de abril de 1961. Perteneció al Ejecutivo Nacional del Movimiento Demócrata Cristiano. Fue dirigente de la Representación Cubana del Exilio (RECE), junto con Jorge Mas Canosa, Ernesto Freire y Vicente Rubiera. Secretario General del Directorio Revolucionario. Ha participado en congresos y cumbres internacionales. Fue Director de los periódicos La Calle y Prensa Libre, así como de la revista Historia y Mundo. Ha sido Director de Radio Mundo 1550 AM y de la WQBA, La Cubanísima, importantes emisoras de radio con base en Miami y Coral Gables, Estados Unidos. Ha presidido el Club del Libro Cubano. Presidente Emérito de la Academia de la Historia de Cuba. Secretario general del Partido Independentista Cubano y presidente del Parlamento Cubano Libre. Creador del Plan Maceo. Organizador principal de varias marchas multitudinarias realizadas por el exilio cubano en la histórica Calle 8 de la Pequeña Habana. Ha dirigido durante años el popular programa La Mesa Caliente, a través de La Poderosa 670 AM. Historiador, periodista y poeta, Calatayud ha escrito varios libros, entre ellos: Martí, visto por sus contemporáneos, El testamento de los desheredados, El diario perdido de John Pasalodos, Primera Antología Poética, El gen de Dios y En pocas palabras. Copresidente de la Peña Martiana, en Miami, Florida.
