Das kommerzielle Fernsehen, Zeitungen und Radio können heute kaum als neutrale Vermittlungsinstanz der öffentlichen Meinung zwischen dem politischen System und den BürgerInnen betrachtet werden, wenn sie es überhaupt jemals waren. Nach wie vor bestimmen ökonomische Zwänge und Interessenspolitiken die medialen Darstellungen. Im Mittelpunkt dieser Studie steht die Untersuchung der demokratischen Qualitäten des Internets, als alternativen Raum politischer Öffentlichkeit. Das besondere Interesse gilt dabei Blogs, persönlichen Internetseiten, die prinzipiell eine freie und unabhängige Publikationsfläche bieten. Es wird beleuchtet, inwiefern Blogs den jeweiligen Nutzern erlauben, den eigenen Ansichten Ausdruck zu verleihen und damit an der politischen Willensbildung mitzuwirken. "Die demokratisch verfasste Meinungs- und Willensbildung ist auf Zufuhr von informellen öffentlichen Meinungen angewiesen, die sich idealerweise in Strukturen einer nicht vermachteten politischen Öffentlichkeit bilden" (Habermas). Die Autorin vergleicht das demokratietheoretischen Ideal politischer Öffentlichkeit mit der realen Nutzung des Internets als politisches Medium. Defizite, Widersprüche und Fakten werden aufgezeigt, welche es dem Leser und der Leserin ermöglichen die politische Rolle von Blogs in der gegenwärtigen Zeit besser einzuordnen. Die Autorin berichtet über medienkritische BloggerInnen aus den USA, subversive Untergrund-Blogs aus Burma und prüft ihren Beitrag zur Transparenz und Qualitätssicherung des professionellen Journalismus. Unter Einbezug authentischer Augenzeugenberichte und Momentaufnahmen von BloggerInnen wird die Rolle von Blogs im internationalen Kontext geprüft. Dabei gilt es zu beweisen, ob von einem realen Beitrag zur Herstellung einer hierarchiefreien politischen Öffentlichkeit die Rede sein kann. Tragen Blogs zu einer Erweiterung der ungleich verteilten Zugangs- und Handlungsmöglichkeiten der Massenmedien bei und sind sie überhaupt zuverlässige Quellen?
About the Author: Marta Michniewicz, geboren 1985 in Szczecin, wanderte noch vor dem Fall des eisernen Vorhangs mit ihrer Familie von Polen nach West-Berlin aus. Zahlreiche Umzüge führten sie schließlich nach Hessen, wo sie ihre Schulzeit verbrachte und an der Philipps-Universität Marburg Politikwissenschaft, Friedens- und Konfliktforschung, Sozialpsychologie und Rechtswissenschaft studierte. Während verschiedener Auslandsaufenthalte in Südostasien und Frankreich intensivierte sich die Auseinandersetzung der Autorin mit dem Internet als sozio-politisches Medium. Derzeit lebt sie in Hamburg und arbeitet an verschiedenen Projekten als Onlineredakteurin und freie Journalistin.
