Lucia Porter and Harry Cavanagh are an unlikely couple. She has suffered from a sheltered and controlled upbringing, he is the heir to a fortune and a title. They meet at university, and after a whirlwind romance marry. But the Harry that Lucia marries turns out to be different from the Harry she fell in love with. Unknown to Harry, Lucia travels to a retreat on a remote Scottish island, where she hopes to find help managing her grief. There she meets four other women who have all had experiences similar to hers. The retreat is led by the mysterious Dr Crowley, whose unconventional methods focus on the ancient, mystical attributes of the island.
Lucia and the other women are led to places beyond their understanding and which they never knew existed.
