About the Book

This is the second edition of The Chicago Burhop Family book. It includes new research on the Burhop family back eight generations in Germany to Gerke Burhop (Buhrhoep) who was born in the mid Sixteenth Century. The book now covers eleven generations of the Chicago Burhop family. There have been substantial additional details and pictures incorporated into the original five generations covered in the first book. It is the story of the Chicago Burhops' immigration from Germany to Illinois desiring a better life in the new world. It is the story of the successful advancement of that family in three generations from poverty to prosperity. It is hoped the research and documentation for this project will give the descendants of Herbert Burhop and his brothers, Edwin and Henry and sister Lucille, some knowledge and background of their roots. There are now fifteen generations of Chicago Burhops since the birth of Gerke Burhop in 1550. Perhaps this book will provide those Chicago Burhops additional understanding of their ancestors.
About the Author: Ray Burhop is a graduate of the University of Illinois and has lived in Florida for over thirty years. During his career, he served as a Project Engineer for a large manufacturing corporation. He later became the President of Burhop Associates, Inc. a consulting company for the packaging industry. Interest in the Civil War and in American History led Ray to do extensive research and led to the publishing of the book on the history of "The Twenty Fourth Illinois Infantry Regiment". His grandfather's experience in the building and first voyage of the Titanic generated Rays interest in this great ship. Ray became the Chief Docent for the Titanic exhibit during the nine month stay at the Museum of Science and Industry in Tampa, Fl. Ray has been associated with Cracker Country, the living history museum at the Florida State Fairgrounds in Tampa, FL., serving as a tour guide, docent and "unofficial volunteer historian". The railroad depot originally located at Okahumpka, Florida is a very dominate feature at Cracker Country. Several years ago the author and his wife relocated from Tampa to central Florida, not too far from Okahumpka. The Director of the museum at Cracker Country suggested Ray initiate some research on the depot and the town. This led to the publishing of, "Okahumpka, The History of a Florida Cracker Community". Presently Ray is serving as a volunteer tour guide at Paquette's Historical Farmall Museum in Leesburg, Florida where he became quite involved in the history of International Harvester, Cyrus McCormick and his extended family. This led to Ray's next book entitled, "The McCormicks of International Harvester. The most recent book entitled "Chicago Burhop Family Hanover to Chicago" traces the Burhop family from the birth of Gerke Burhop born in 1550 through to Herbert, Edwin, Henry and Lucille Burhop of the Twentieth Century.
