About the Book

Don't be the fish. Be the bug.

We've been fishing for 140,000 years. We've been trying to get better at it for 140,000 years. It is time to look at fishing lore from a new perspective. This book was written for those who understand the fly fishing terms of "skunked," "broken off," "hatch," "rise," and "hook-up."

Bug the Bug -3 presents the point of view of the mayflies, caddis flies, and stoneflies that have been dealing with trout and stream conditions for hundreds of millions of years. They help us out with problems that have plagued us forever and some that we have created only recently.

Dealing with crowds Threading tiny flies Competing with fishing buddies Relying on published "prime fishing times" Buying the wrong flies Determining when a fish will forget Poor fishing outfits Mixing politics and fly fishing

Fixes for all of these dilemmas and more are provided by the panel of aquatic insects hosting the Bug-the-Bug forum. The bugs have seen it all. And now, they're willing to share.

To catch more trout, you have to be the bug.
About the Author: John Davenport is the eNewsletter Editor for Denver Trout Unlimited. His short piece, "Tunnel", was published in the Winter 2013 issue of "The Drake." His fly-fishing eBooks include: "Getting into Fly Fishing for under $100", three volumes of "Bug the Bug, Fly-Fishing Advice from Smart Bugs", "Freedom for the River Queen" about the history of Colorado carp and the "FishB4UFly" series that divulges how to fish great places in a day and still make your evening flight from Denver. He fishes twice a week on nearby streams and has been learning to fly fish for many decades. He has held licenses to match wits with trout in 21 states and 15 foreign countries. To see where he is fishing right now check: fishb4ufly.blogspot.com He has fished with and taken lessons from fly fishing icons like Joan Wulff, Joe Humphreys, Bob Jacklin, Landon Mayer, Pat Dorsey, George Daniel and Reid Baker. As a competition official he has scored fish for Josh Stevens, Hunter Hoeffler, Tyler Befus, and Jake McKittrick. He ties flies, makes rods and fishes with his grandchildren in CO, HI, NJ, and IL . His home stream is now in Colorado.
