Hass und Gewalt wurden auch vor allem durch die ethnische Säuberung der indigenen palästinensischen Bevölkerung von Israel provoziert, deren Verbrechen gegen die Menschheit durch eine Form von Propaganda, die als Hasbara oder die "Erklärung" bekannt ist, manipuliert. Diese Propaganda richtete sich an ein internationales Publikum, um strittige israelische Handlungen und Polizisten - in der Vergangenheit und Gegenwart - in einem positiven Licht darzustellen, während sie eine negative Darstellung der Araber im Allgemeinen und der Palästinenser im Speziellen darstellte. Zusammen mit dem jüdischen Aktivisten Adam Peltz und dem palästinensischen Führer Sami Hadawi sind die Bemühungen von Banner unerwünscht und gipfeln oft in gefährlichen und letztlich tödlichen Folgen. Der Roman wurde motiviert durch Israels eklatanter Verleugnung der grundlegenden Menschenrechte an Millionen von Palästinensern, darunter auch Kinder, deren endlose Verfolgung durch die Doppelmoral der sogenannten westlichen Demokratien heuchlerisch toleriert wird. Neben der Beleuchtung der Themen Kultur, Rassismus, Religion und Gewalt, bringt Hanna die fesselnde Geschichte des Kampfes und der Spaltung voran.
About the Author: Da der in London lebende freiberufliche Schriftsteller William Hanna in Ostafrika und im Nahen Osten aufgewachsen ist und diese Gegenden bereist hat, hatte er bereits die entsetzliche Ungerechtigkeit des Kolonialismus erlebt, in der indigene Bevölkerungsgruppen wirtschaftlich an den Rand gedrängt, verleumdet, geschunden, und sogar massakriert wurden, während europäische Siedler ihr Land besetzten und Ressourcen ausbeuteten. Während die Briten, Franzosen, Portugiesen, Spanier und andere Kolonialmächte hauptsächlich damit beschäftigt waren, die indigene Bevölkerung zu knechten, die Ressourcen ihrer Länder zu plündern und dann schließlich die Notwendigkeit anzuerkennen, ihnen wie in Afrika ihre Unabhängigkeit zuzugestehen, waren die jüdischen Siedler nicht nur einfach nach Palästina gekommen, um zu kolonisieren, sondern um die indigene Bevölkerung rücksichtslos zu verdrängen. Es war des Zionismus kalte, kalkulierte und grausame Habgier der Kolonisierung Palästinas, die Hanna veranlasste, über solche barbarischen ethnischen Säuberungen durch ein Volk zu schreiben, das es - mehr als jedes Andere - besser wissen sollte.
