Studienarbeit aus dem Jahr 2011 im Fachbereich Geschichte - Weltgeschichte - Frühgeschichte, Antike, Technische Universität Dresden, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Der Brief des Claudius stellt den Versuch des Kaisers dar, die gewaltvollen Auseinandersetzungen zwischen Teilen der jüdischen und griechischen Bevölkerung, die seit dem Jahr 38 n. Chr. in Alexandria stattfanden, zu beenden und die verfeindeten Lager zu befrieden. Der erste Teil dieser Arbeit bietet eine Gliederung des Briefes und beschäftigt sich mit den darin angesprochenen Maßnahmen. Darauf folgend wird zweitens eine Zusammenfassung der Ereignisse gegeben, die dazu führten, dass Claudius diesen Brief an die Alexandriner richtete. Die Kapitel drei bis sieben beinhalten Themen, die in der Literatur kontrovers dargestellt werden. Hier wird versucht, zu einer eigenen Position zu finden. Unter anderem geht es darum, in welchem Verhältnis der Brief des Claudius mit dessen Judenedikten steht. Außerdem wird eine Chronologie der verschiedenen Gesandtschaften von Alexandria nach Rom angeboten. Das Hauptaugenmerk der Arbeit liegt auf der Frage, woher die Empörung über das Verhalten der Juden, die Claudius im Brief zum Ausdruck bringt, rührt. Interessant ist hierfür eine These zur Verfasstheit der antiken jüdischen Diaspora. Diese wird zur Erklärung des Gesinnungswandels des Claudius herangezogen. Gearbeitet wurde mit der Übersetzung des Briefs an die Alexandriner, wie sie bei Bar-rett in dessen Quellensammlung zur Umwelt des Neuen Testaments zu finden ist. Als Grundlage für diese Arbeit diente unter anderem Helga Botermanns aufschlussreiche Schrift zum Judenedikt des Kaisers Claudius. Darüberhinaus beziehe ich mich für die Ausschreitungen in Alexandria auf die entsprechenden Kapitel bei Smallwood, Ferril, Bernett und Bringmann. Mittels des Aufsatzes zum Brief des Kaisers Claudius von Richard Laqueur von 1926 konnte Einblick in die Diskussion direkt nach Veröffentlichung des Pap. Lond. 1912 genommen werden. Zudem lie
