About the Book

AN UPLIFTING CHILDREN'S BOOK FOR ADULTS!

With the horns of the unicorn he shall push the people together... Deuteronomy (Authorized King James Bible)

When in a long ago time a young man and his wife are violently seized and carried away, their small children Maryeta and Lyons miraculously manage to escape the clutches of the wicked overlord Baltric. With a bounty of one gold piece placed on their heads, the two children become fugitives forced to hide in the forest outside the village of Byblos. Their grandfather Fahseed, an accomplished blacksmith, does all he can to nurture and protect the two little renegades.

Grown to be seven and nine years old the two children one day climb into the leafy branches of Maryeta's favorite tree that overlooks a waterfall. They are both delighted and astonished to see happen upon each other a unicorn with a black mane and a unicorn filly with wings. Falling out of the tree for her excitement, Maryeta scares away the magic horses. Convinced that she will never again see the unicorn and winged horse, Maryeta is heartbroken. But unbeknownst to the girl, the black-maned unicorn remains in the forest to watch protectively over the children as they grow into resourceful teenagers. Unfortunately, the greedy overlord continues to take away the freedoms of his hard-working subjects, and even worse, to hunt unicorns that through their magic bring to creation the blessings of beauty and abundance.

The pursuit of the wicked overlord becomes harder and harder for Maryeta and Lyons to evade. The inevitable finally happens; the soldiers of Baltric capture the boy. When by himself he defeats a platoon of cruel ruffians, the rescue of Lyons by the blackmaned unicorn proves spectacularly courageous. For the color of the black squiggly markings that pretty his white hide, Maryeta names the unicorn Briarburr.

The discovery of a deposit of the magical blue gold of legend brings hope to the two children and their grandfather. With the help of three stalwart blacksmith friends, Fahseed sets about to forge the magical ore into shining armor and swords protective of hearts that are true. Realizing that the wicked ways of the overlord must once and for all come to an end, a plan to overthrow the despot is put into action. As the conflict grows the winged unicorn filly, a company of courageous unicorn stallions, and a fierce-looking lieutenant with a shaved head enlist to help Captain Fahseed, Lyons, Maryeta, and Briarburr. The glorious power of the magic blue gold to beget heartfelt love and truth comes to be fully discovered. The noble band of warriors and unicorns will not quit their struggle until Byblos and the surrounding kingdom of Phoenicia are liberated, and as well until the precious nine clans of unicorns find a hold where they can live in peace and safety.

Romance blossoms, and become a princess Maryeta desires to be wed. Will she be snared in a plot to further the political interest of the Kingdom of Phoenicia, or will true love come to triumph?
