About the Book

For more than 200 years the borders of the United States had shielded American citizens from foreign aggression. We had become complacent; we were lulled into a false sense of security. Then, on September 11, 2001 that security was breached and America felt the bite of a foreign aggressor who boldly attacked from within. We woke up. We strengthened our walls, but are we still vulnerable? In Breath of Satan: Jihad in America, a network of well-trained terrorist sleeper cells is woven into the fabric of society. Hidden within our borders they await the signal that the Jihad has begun again. Former FBI Special Agent Tom Haynie tells the story of what could happen if that signal is given. Within the first chapter, a surgical raid on a major U.S. airbase triggers a sequence of events that many fear and most deny could happen. Multiple sleeper cells strike without warning. FBI Special Agent Shelby Coulter has to discover if and how they are connected. Before her investigation can focus, they strike again and again. Led by a mobile and dangerous leader, the terrorists move quickly. If a cell is incapacitated, replacements take its place. The terrorists stay ahead of Coulter and her team of highly trained FBI specialists. In a night raid on a dive hotel in New York City, they take out a cell poised to strike, and Coulter discovers evidence that chills her soul. She closes in and the terrorist leader diverts a cell to assassinate her. Millions of lives hang in the balance as the FBI connects the links of a nationwide Jihad that lead to a dramatic and suspenseful conclusion.
About the Author: Born and raised in the Appalachian Mountains, Tom Haynie grew up with a thirst for fiction, whetting his appetite early by reading every science fiction novel written by Robert A. Heinlein held in his small town library in southwestern Pennsylvania. He developed a love for the classics in the eighth grade when his teacher introduced the class to the novel Ivanhoe by Sir Walter Scott. After graduating from the university in four years with a double major and double minor his literary appetite changed direction to the action/thriller genre and he began devouring books by Tom Clancy, Steven Koontz, Michael Crichton and others. He's always had a knack for spinning a yarn be it around the campfire or writing a story. His craving for adventure took him through a stint in the FBI as a Special Agent where he was exposed to a vast treasure trove of exciting material for stories that need to be told. The first draft for Breath of Satan: Jihad in America was completed just before September 11, 2001, but the subject was too close to reality and the national wounds were too fresh to be exposed so soon. In the meantime, his love for writing drove him to create his second novel, Dogfish Project, a futuristic story of an ultra-modern submarine adventure that takes place after the world settles from global nuclear war. Haynie has recently retired from a management career and is spending his time researching material for his next novel.
