Die Heirat ist ein Symbol für Familie, Zusammengehörigkeit und Tradition. Das moderne Zeitalter zeichnet sich unteranderem durch Toleranz gegenüber gleichgeschlechtlichen Partnern, Single-Haushalten, Patchwork-Familien und Partnerschaften ohne Eheschließung aus. Noch vor ein paar Jahrhunderten galt Eheschließung als ein strenges, eher zweckmäßiges als weniger romantisches Konzept. Zum Zeitpunkt des Mittelalters lag der Fokus auf der ehelichen Verbindung als politisches Arrangement, auf ökonomischem Fundament und Gütern, Herrschaftsbündnissen, Macht, Hierarchien und gesellschaftlichem Aufstieg. Doch wie sieht es in dem mittelalterlichen Nibelungenlied aus? Laut Karnein ist das Nibelungenlied das "Werk, das die großen Männer- und Frauengestalten Siegfried und Gunther, Brünhild und Kriemhild in den literarischen Diskurs einführte. Inwiefern verfolgen die Hauptfiguren des Werkes die zweckmäßige Eheschließung und zuvor die schematische Brautwerbung? Die vorliegende Arbeit nimmt sich die Brautwerbung im Nibelungenlied zum Thema. Der Fokus liegt auf der Forschungsfrage: Verfolgt das Nibelungenlied das Schema der gefährlichen Brautwerbung? In der Hausarbeit soll folgende These untersucht werden: Im Nibelungenlied wird die Basisregel, dass der Beste und die Schönste zueinander finden, erfüllt. Zunächst wird ein Überblick über das Konzept der Brautwerbung gegeben, um im Anschluss daran die Beziehungskonstellationen von Gunther - Brünhild, Siegfried - Kriemhild und Siegfried - Brünhild zu untersuchen.
