About the Book

Heartwarming and hilarious, A Boy Called Combustion celebrates the adventures of childhood, the bonds of family and the joys of life in the 1940s South. Bill Keeton - nicknamed "Combustion" for reasons readers will immediately understand - grew up as part of the Fondren family, a clan large enough to give its name to a section of Jackson, Mississippi. Accidentally knocking down his grandparent's garage, "helping" neighbors paint their house and his uncle's car and denting his mother's brand new stove with his BB gun, young Billy constantly surprised all who knew him. The boo's linked stories savor the vivid imagination behind a child's comic exploits, the wisdom gained in the aftermath, and the colorful family and friends who shared both the lessons and the fun. A Boy Called Combustion is a memoir deeply rooted in a particular time and place: the Mississippi of the 1940s, where folks never cook from prepared mixes and kids have a weekly date with the movie serials. Yet it is timeless American story of life, love, laughter, maturation, and the gifts of family strength.
About the Author: Dr. Bill Keeton is Board Certified by the American Board of Anesthesiology and the American Board of Pain Medicine and has over 35 years of experience in pain management. Dr. Keeton received his MD degree from the University of Mississippi Medical School and completed his residency in anesthesiology at Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas, Texas. He also trained under his good friend and mentor, Dr. Janet Travell who was President John F. Kennedy's White House Physician. Dr. Keeton was the founder and director of DeKalb Pain Center at DeKalb Medical Center from 1984 until he joined Pain Consultants of Atlanta in August of 2007. Dr. Keeton proudly served in the US Air Force (USAF) as Chief of Anesthesia and Chief of the Pain Clinic, which he established at Westover AFB, Massachusetts. Dr. Keeton was Chief of Anesthesia at DeKalb Medical for 16 years and since 1997 has devoted his practice to pain management full time. He is past president of the DeKalb Medical Society and the Greater Atlanta Society of Anesthesiologists. Dr. Keeton has been a frequent lecturer on the proper use of opioid medications for patients in chronic intractable pain and has also written an educational program for patients on this subject. He has also written a web based interactive program teaching children to tell time. He lives in Atlanta, GA with Dee, his wife of twenty years.
