Leander is funny, kind, loving, creative, determined, independent, and a fussy eater.
She grew up loathing fish, despising mushrooms, and disliking red meat and most green vegetables. At 14 she turned fully vegetarian and lived on spaghetti hoops, baked beans, noodles, bread, eggs, fries, and breakfast cereal - and the occasional tomato, spring onion and radish.
At 17, she went vegan. Her mum, admiring her daughter's deep passion for animal welfare, wasn't concerned. Their limited knowledge suggested that Leander supplement with iron and B12. They bought a tonic (which she usually forgot to take) and hoped for the best.
A year later Leander headed off to university - young, vegan, invincible!
Whereupon, in painful slow motion, the wheels began to fall off. This lively, energetic girl started to have all manner of health issues. She was so, so tired. Her headaches were awful. She was dizzy, light-headed. She couldn't sleep. She felt lethargic, weak, fatigued, cold and miserable. Her doctors couldn't pinpoint a cause and, as the months went by, the cracks were papered over with antidepressants. But the list of symptoms continued to grow. Nothing seemed to be ticking right anymore.
As a last resort, wondering if the way she ate might play a role, Leander changed her diet. It took time, but gradually her energy returned and her zest for life was restored. And in this book, you'll find everything she learned about nutrition, plus twenty one specially designed recipes, all featuring meals rich in key nutrients designed to ease fatigue, lethargy and poor sleep.
Each recipe lists nutrient content so, with a glance, Leander can see just how much iron, iodine, selenium, magnesium, calcium etc she was getting. She could also see why certain foods were included. She learned how vitamins and minerals worked, why she needed them, and much much much more.
I hope it helps you too.
