Volume 1 of the series (or Volume 3 depending on how you look at it), this is the story which introduces Quaraun's lover BoomFuzzy the Candy Wizard.
BoomFuzzy: After many years living in the desert with the DiJinn, young Moon Elf Quaraun returns to his frigid arctic homelands hoping the family that cast him out would welcome him back. Time has not softened old wounds and the Moon Elves are far from happy to see the prodigal prince return, but the Moon Elves can not be bothered to worry about the renegade prince right now as rumours say that the Elf Eater's army has been sighted in rout to the valley.
Days after the prince's return, a life-sized gingerbread house falls from the sky and no one thinks it strange. Quaraun watches in dismay as his fellow Moon Elves, one by one, go missing after being lured into the mysterious candy shop made of gingerbread. Only unlike the other Elves, Quaraun doesn't see a gingerbread house. He sees the shop for what it is: a monstrous castle decorated with the skulls of Elves and dripping with blood.
The candy maker, a half-Elf named BoomFuzzy, has one request for Quaraun: "Make me 13 genie bottles for capturing evil spirits." Quaraun knows BoomFuzzy is in fact the Elf Eater of Pepper Valley a blood thirty Faerie King hell bent on becoming a Lich, but when the evil Fae King saves the prince's life from the town bullies, Quaraun turns his back on the Moon Elves and binds his soul to BoomFuzzy's to become a Necromancer and build thirteen Liches unlike any Lich the world has ever known.
Seeing their prince in a romantic relationship with another male, sends the gay-hating Moon Elves to conspire against Quaraun, unleashing a chain of events none of them expected, ending with the mass murder suicide that leaves Quaraun the last Moon Elf left alive and unleashes the most fearsome Lich of all time.
