About the Book

The core course in Mathematics named as "Sharh Al Kitaab Al Muraqabaat (شرح الكتاب المرقبات)" is developed to accommodate the needs of Muslim students across the various universities throughout the globe, in particularly of the Islamic Studies department, located at Preston University in Ajman. The need of such a text was anticipated by various individuals and organizations throughout the Islamic world. Although texts referring to the Muslims contributions towards mathematics are well available and the works of Ibn Khuldoon's Al Muqadama and Kaseem Khaleel's the Arabian connection, are texts dually praiseworthy, but none of the texts included these contributions from the theoretical and the technical aspects. This very need was fulfilled by compiling this textbook and hence both of those aspects were brought together. The aim is to view the subject of mathematics from an angle enriched with Islamic contributions. Mathematics, in its natural domain of definition is declared to be the mother of all sciences by Western theologians, but it remains an accepted fact that until today, contributions made by the early generation Muslims in the field of mathematics are second to none. The primeobjective s to create an awareness among Muslim students to accept the reality that Mathematics being a subject of innumerous skills, its modern day development and fundamentals have much to do with the early generation of Muslim mathematicians and their research. The attempt is an effort to teach mathematics and develop to manage Islamic calculations. In this regard a combination of three mathematical branches, Pure-mathematics, mechanics and statistics has been induced concurrently to versatile the course. Furthermore, the course is subdivided into two modules to facilitate ease at this level for the students. At this juncture, its an honor for me to mention the name of Dr. A.A.B Philips, whose passion induced enthusiasm in me to accept this challenge, and making this project into a reality. A special word of thanks for one of my former teachers in Mathematics, Dr.S.M.S Imdadi, whose moral support encouraged me to comply to the challenges which confronted me in due course of the modular development. My heartiest gratitude for my family members; (my parents and my elder brother) for barring with me patiently in the development of this text. A word of love for Mr. Richard Hinkson and his library for assisting me to research the syllabus contents for the text and a final word of applause for the entire Islamic studies department, to all those personnel, including Dr. Abdul Majeed and Ms Dana Smith Bader, who became my strongest supporters in working on this project.
